Handlesets Definitions

Single Cylinder:
An entry set which is operated by key on the exterior and a thumb-turn on the interior. A single cylinder lock is most frequently used in residential locations.

Double Cylinder:
An entry set which is operated by key on both the exterior and interior sides of the lock. Double cylinder locks are most frequently used on glass doors, or doors that are not far from an easily broken window or sidelight.

Dummy Sets:
Dummy handle sets are almost always used in conjunction with a matching single or double cylinder handle set.  These are intended for use on the inactive door in a set of double doors.

Mortise Locks:
A mortise lock is the most secure form of an entry set. These types of locks require special door preparation in order to house the lock body.

Keylock/Privacy/Passage/Dummy
Most door locks come in these four categories.  The differences between them are easy to understand.  A KEYLOCKhas a key-operated lock on the exterior and a push button or turn lock on the interior.   These are most often used on the entry doors of a residence.  A PRIVACY door lock is often used for a bathroom door.  It has a push button or turn lock on the interior.  A    PASSAGE door lock does not include a locking mechanism and is usually used for bedroom or other interior room doors.  A DUMMY lock is simply a knob that does not have a latch or any other internal parts.  Dummies do not turn are most often found on closet doors.

Two Point Lockset:
For added security, try a Two Point Lockset. These handle sets feature an independently locking deadbolt and handle.

Electronic Security:
Keeping your home and your family secure has never been easier. Keypad locks and deadbolts allow you the freedom and the flexibility to add and delete user codes as needed.

Interconnected:
An interconnected lock set inlcudes a built-in device that allows for easy exiting. If the knob/lever is turned from the interior side of the door, the deadbolt will automatically disengage itself.
